Summary

The cozy comedy of Joe Pera meets the darkly playful illustrations of Joe Bennett in A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape, a funny, warm, and sincere guide to regaining calm and confidence when you're hiding in the bathroom。

Joe Pera goes to the bathroom a lot。 And his friend, Joe Bennett, does too。 They both have small bladders but more often it's just to get a moment of quiet, a break from work, or because it's the only way they know how to politely end conversations。

So they created a functional meditative guide to help people who suffer from social anxiety and deal with it in this very particular way。 Although, it's a comedic book, the goal is to help these readers:

1。 Relax
2。 Recharge
3。 Rejoin the world outside of the bathroom

It's also fun entertainment for people simply hiding in the bathroom to avoid doing work。

A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape will be waiting in the bathroom like a beacon for anxious readers looking to feel calm, confident, and less alone。

Lowered my blood pressure, made me smile and helped me feel better about the impending dooms of the world。 All the usual good hallmarks of Joe Pera's comedy。。。 And I didn't leave the cooking gas on。 Lowered my blood pressure, made me smile and helped me feel better about the impending dooms of the world。 All the usual good hallmarks of Joe Pera's comedy。。。 And I didn't leave the cooking gas on。 。。。more

If you've ever sat in a bathroom trying to avoid something else by being in there, this is the book for you。 Meditative and funny, you'll not only be reconsidering why you're sitting in the bathroom in the first place, but also drive up the nerve to leave and socialize with the people on the other side of the door。 Thank you so much to Forge publishing for the advance reading copy! For starters, Joe Pera & Joe Bennett have created a veritable masterpiece of bathroom literature。 Compact, entertaining from cover to cover, and allowing the possibility of completion in one extended sitting, their book is carefully constructed meditation on life, anxiety, and the necessity of temporarily walling ourselves off from the chaos of the outside world。 Alternating between trivia and profundity, small talk and philosophy, one need not ask for a better companion in this most universal of private moments。 Armed with this book as one’s extended mantra, the bathroom becomes a temple of solace, a retreat from reality, a blissful flirtation with nirvana。 Joe Pera’s smooth prose serves as a practical brain massage while Joe Bennett’s uncanny illustrations sing to our very soul, allowing the haunting figures of the outside world to be briefly rendered insignificant。 Whether one is attempting to procrastinate from mundane daily chores like emptying the dishwasher or taking out the garbage, or instead seeking to escape the existential dread ensuing from the deep contradictions of a disordered society rife with corruption, trauma and the pained legacy of colonialism, this book is an equal escape for all。 It gives us a moment to breath, laugh, gently smile, and experience a cherished moment of serenity。 At the end of our journey we’re left to reflect on the use of the toilet as a human-all-too-human experience, the reminder of our earthliness, our material nature, and ultimately our mortality。 While our alone time may often guide us to the deep questions of life, death, and the troubles in between, this book reminds us that none of us need endure the journey alone。Five stars。 。。。more

This book is absolutely amazing and would be so funny to keep in a bathroom。 I love that the message is you are safe in the bathroom but that you can't stay there forever and it will all be alright。Thank you to netgalley for providing me with an arc for an honest review。 This book is absolutely amazing and would be so funny to keep in a bathroom。 I love that the message is you are safe in the bathroom but that you can't stay there forever and it will all be alright。Thank you to netgalley for providing me with an arc for an honest review。 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley for priding a partial ARC for reviewSimply put; read this book。'A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape' is a delightful and introspective look into social anxiety and the safe haven of escape that the space of a bathroom provides。 The drawings are pleasant on the eyes and the words are thoughtfully placed for a soothing read。 I highly recommend this book to anyone who longs for a quite escape away from the chaos and social anxi Thank you to NetGalley for priding a partial ARC for reviewSimply put; read this book。'A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape' is a delightful and introspective look into social anxiety and the safe haven of escape that the space of a bathroom provides。 The drawings are pleasant on the eyes and the words are thoughtfully placed for a soothing read。 I highly recommend this book to anyone who longs for a quite escape away from the chaos and social anxiety。 。。。more

What a charming little book。 I will be revisiting the audio book (Thanks Libro。FM!) and the print book for years to come。 If you ever feel like you need a deep breath, here it is。 It doesn't solve any problems, but this bite-sized guided meditation gives you space。 It's so simple and so beautiful。 What a charming little book。 I will be revisiting the audio book (Thanks Libro。FM!) and the print book for years to come。 If you ever feel like you need a deep breath, here it is。 It doesn't solve any problems, but this bite-sized guided meditation gives you space。 It's so simple and so beautiful。 。。。more

Please look past the title and READ THIS BOOK。 Specifically, LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK。 If you’re not familiar with Joe Pera’s work, he’s what would happen if Mr。 Rogers had gone into comedy instead of children’s television。 This book surprised laughter out of me a few times, and its through-line of sincere positivity and thoughtful observations is classic Pera。 Also, the audiobook only takes fifteen minutes to listen to including credits。 Thanks to Libro。fm for the free review copy!

Thank you to libro。fm for the audio ARC of the best book of 2021。 It was a 15 minute listen, but damn right I'm going to count all 128 pages in my competition with Rhiannon。 Thank you to libro。fm for the audio ARC of the best book of 2021。 It was a 15 minute listen, but damn right I'm going to count all 128 pages in my competition with Rhiannon。 。。。more

This is an audiobook that I will, like the bathroom at a crowded party, revisit many times。

Love Joe Pera, and a bathroom companion authored by him sounds like the perfect idea。 But I found this short book that can easily be read in one “sitting” somewhat hit or miss。

Heh-heh, guess who won a partial ARC of this beloved new book coming soon? That's right, folks。 Finally, we can get a book discussing the bathroom situation!Sigh, for anyone who has social anxiety or social problems, we've all been there。 If you've had something scary and stressful going on, you've probably gone straight to the bathroom。 I remember back in elementary we were forced to do these presentations in my class。 I just raised my hand and got to the bathroom。 There I occupied myself in a Heh-heh, guess who won a partial ARC of this beloved new book coming soon? That's right, folks。 Finally, we can get a book discussing the bathroom situation!Sigh, for anyone who has social anxiety or social problems, we've all been there。 If you've had something scary and stressful going on, you've probably gone straight to the bathroom。 I remember back in elementary we were forced to do these presentations in my class。 I just raised my hand and got to the bathroom。 There I occupied myself in a stall for eternity (and awkwardly) as I hoped the period would pass by quickly。 Alas, my teacher found me and took me back to class。 Where, thankfully, I didn't have to present in the end。 Life is a struggle。 And even more, if you're not good with the whole socializing thing。 It's scary as fuck, to go out there and face your fears。 I think this book is especially needed for us, the people who face these issues, in our day-to-day lives。 It can show us that even though we're hiding in the bathroom, it's that single moment that counts。And whether you decide to get out of the bathroom or stay in, you're safe in this bathroom。 You don't have to worry。 Life will still be life。 All in all, I rate this book five stars。 I think we all, social problems or not, seriously need a book like this, right now in our lives。 The pandemic has ruined things for us, that's for sure。 We barely socialize anymore。 Some of us are staying in our houses。 Some of us are doing online school。 Some of us have lost loved ones。 Whatever happens next, it's the single moment that counts。 Make it count however you'd like :) 。。。more
